The City of Temiskaming Shores has recently opened its first electric vehicle (EV) charging station in Haileybury, Ontario, and it's great news for the community. This development provides a much-needed service for EV owners while promoting sustainability, attracting tourists, and boosting the local economy.
Located near Haileybury Beach at 322 Browning Street, the level 3, 60kw fast charger has both CCS and CHAdeMO plugs, accommodating many electric vehicles on the road, and two vehicles can charge simultaneously. Charging is affordable, with a cost of only $18/hr, and most vehicles can get an 80% charge in less than an hour. The location of the charger was carefully chosen to entice travellers passing through the community to stop in Haileybury. During charging time, people can go for a walk along the waterfront, explore the town, support local shops, or enjoy a quick bite to eat at one of the local restaurants.
EVs are becoming increasingly popular, and the demand for charging stations is growing rapidly. With more and more EVs on the road, it's essential to have charging infrastructure in place to support them. The new charging station in Haileybury makes it easier for EV owners to travel through the area and support the town.
The opening of this charging station in Haileybury is also a significant development for the community as it demonstrates the City of Temiskaming Shores' commitment to sustainability. Promoting the use of electric vehicles isn't only about providing a service to EV owners, but it's also about attracting visitors and promoting tourism in the area. EV owners are likely to choose destinations that have charging infrastructure in place, making Haileybury a more attractive location for them.
It's important to note that this project was 100% funded by other organizations, and pricing has been set to provide a surplus after paying electricity and maintenance costs. To use the charger, you need the JP Ouellette ChargeLab app, and there is a QR code on the charger that will take you right to the specific charger in the app.
The opening of the first EV charging station in Haileybury is a fantastic development for the community. It provides a much-needed service for EV owners and promotes sustainability while also attracting visitors to the area. With the trend towards electric vehicles increasing, it's hoped that more EV charging stations, such as Tesla Superchargers, will be installed in the future, making EV travel even more convenient and accessible in Temiskaming Shores.
